The God Who Delivers Us from Our Fears
In our world today, there are unlimited things to make you feel afraid. Just turn on the news. There's terrorism, climate change, the opioid crisis, contaminated food, child abductions. The list is endless.
Fear will motivate you to do things you never thought you would do in an effort to protect yourself.
There are more and more people locking their doors, never even coming out their front door. The business world has capitalized on this. Now you can shop from home and even bank from home. You can have your prescriptions, groceries - anything you need pretty well - delivered right to your door.
But what do you do about things that you cannot protect yourself from?
What do we do about our inner fears, or our fears of the future? What do we do with our fear of not having money, fear of health problems or dying, fear of failing? What about our fear of what others will think about us? That's a big one, isn’t it? See, there's no protecting yourself from those kinds of fears. They haunt you and the more your mind focuses on them, the bigger and more intense the fear becomes.
Fear is crippling. It's paralyzing. This is something I know a thing or two about. It's like when I try to move my leg. I can will it to move or try to move it with all my might, but it doesn't want to move. It's paralyzed. Friends, that's the exact same thing that fear will do to you. You can want to prevail, try to overcome it with everything in you, but fear will prevent you.
Fear will overpower your desire and your efforts every time. Think of the ways that fear hinders you from doing all the things you'd like to do. Think about how your life would be different if you didn't have the fears that you battle.
The good news is that God knew from the day Adam sinned that mankind would be cursed with fear.
When Adam made the choice to live his life independent from God, he discovered he didn't have the resources to do it. The result was fear. Setting out to do something, trying to make something happen and then discovering you don't have what it takes to do it; this results in a lot of fear.
God knew mankind would be plagued by fear. That's why there are countless Scriptures telling us that if God is our refuge, if Jesus is your Life...there's no need to fear. Amen!
Fear is a choice for the believer.
We don't have to protect ourselves from all the nasty stuff out there, nor do we need to rid our mind of our tormenting fears. God is our Protector, Provider, Deliverer, Healer, Sustainer...He is our Life!
Whatever difficulty you're going through today,
Ask, and God will either deliver you from that difficult situation or He’ll give you the resources you need to go through it.
Either way you win! Isn't that great?
Scripture says, “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear…” 1 John 4:18a (NASB) God wants to alleviate you from your fears. This is what your Father's love for you is like, it dispels fear! I love when David asks these rhetorical questions, “The Lord is my light and my salvation - whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life - of whom shall I be afraid?” Psalm 27:1 (NIV) Thank you, Lord. Let these verses encourage you today!
